What is Ductile Iron?

Ductile iron, also known as nodular cast iron or SG (Spheroidal Graphite) iron, is a type of cast iron engineered to offer improved ductility, impact resistance and tensile strength over traditional gray iron. Its unique graphite microstructure, forming spherical nodules, allows it to bend or deform without fracturing, making it ideal for parts encountering mechanical stress and shock.
